Their Hainan chicken is really good and this is my second visit (drove from DTLA). However their staff felt nervous and questioned why I was taking photos when I pick up my order. So maybe don’t take photos before asking for permissions😋
For those of you looking for Savoy without the long drive. The food court stall has been featured on many articles for their signature Hainan Chicken. It is as good as mall food gets.
This place is comparable to the Chicken Savoy in the San Gabriel Area, but it's more of a cafeteria style instead of a sit down and someone serving you. This place offers limited choices, but stick with the Hainan Chicken and you can't go wrong. Or the Roasted chicken is another good try. The rest of their stuff are so-so. Their rice is made with chicken stock so it's pretty tasty probably with the help of a good helping of MSG. Presentation is surprisingly well considering they're using paper recyclable trays. They do have a bucket of ice water.
Reasonable price. Meat is not of high quality. Cooking could be improved. Not as authentic as other Man Chan chicken restaurant.
This really can't be a contender for best hainanese chicken can it?
Awesome food and taste super good. The sauce is a must have.
The garlic rice is tasty...I think tastier and more flavorful than that at Savoy Chicken. However I do think the chicken is a little on the dry side. I love the ginger scallion sauce. Overall, very solid for a food court option.
Their deep fried hainam chicken is sooo good. What I like about side chick is how quick they make the food and it taste homemade!
Located inside the Santa Anita Mall, near EMC and Din Tai Fung. Not bad Hainan Chicken but the portion sizes regarding the chicken is a bit skimpy.
Hainan chicken is delicious as are the wings. Rice is soo good when you put some of the sauces on it too
I got the chicken to go and they didnt give me the ginger that makes it taste good. That IS THE REASON you get the chicken and the rice. They forgot their main ingredient. Terrible. AND when I called them to tell them, they don't accept phone calls. WOW
My “Side Chick” isn’t as good as my main chick, Savoy. My main chick is always moist in all the right places, while my side chick is just a little too dry for my taste. I’ll still see my side chick every now and then but only when I get tired of my main chick.
I didn't understand the whole Hainan chicken thing. Tried it a time or two before at a different location. It didn't do it for me. Yes I know, not for everyone. Told myself that if Jonathan Gold's pick couldn't convince me, then I wasn't gonna try anymore. I now believe. I love how the ginger soy and hot sauce go together to complement the chicken. Rice is done well. The chicken bone broth is a good portion to wash it down. Try it! You won't regret it.
Authentic chicken rice, affordable too
Don’t underestimate this place! We almost passed in it but soo glad we gave it a try.Great quality and price on the food. The soup noodles was a good portion and we even had to take it home as leftovers. You can ask for a lif to fit on your bowl. Hainan chicken was good. I ordered the soy egg cuz I thought we wouldn’t get full enough from the two entrees but I was wrong nd we didn’t even need it. The soy sauce egg had great flavor and was runny on the inside! Must try in youre in the mall!
As always. Good hainan chicken. Great service
The flavors were good, the rice wonderful, but the chicken's texture suggested it was undercooked.
The food could use a bit more flavour/seasoning but good nonetheless.
Side Chick is located in the new food court area in the Santa Anita Mall. ~Food~The Hainan Chicken (white or dark meat) came with sliced pickled cucumbers, white rice (they don't serve brown rice)with crispy garlic, and three sauces (spicey chili, seasoned soy, ginger scallion). I like to pour the seasoned soy sauce on the rice and love the taste of chicken with the ginger scallion. The portion was more than enough for me. I also paired my meal with the Chicken Soup which is cooked for 24 hours, it was good! The Roasted Chicken is served with honey glazed sauce, sliced pickled cucumbers, and rice. I enjoyed this dish too. If you don't want rice, you can get a salad. Try the Chicken Wings too. ~Customer Service~Quick and friendly. ~Notes~-Indoor and outdoor seating-Parking lot and garages
This is our to-go Hainan chicken when we're at the mall. Order at the counter and pick up your order once your number is called. Expect about a 8-10 minute wait since there's a constant turnover of chicken. We normally order the Hainan chicken with a side of garlic stir fried yu-choy. You can request dark meat for an extra charge. The roast chicken can be a bit on the dry side as others have noted. The saving grace is the fact that you can order a half-chicken size of you are really hungry. The broth of the chicken noodle is excellent and they are very quite generous with the chicken. The fried Hainan chicken is a bit too fatty for my taste but some may prefer that juicy fattiness.Seating can be limited since there are only 15 seats spread out in a communal seating area.
Love it..the fried chicken menu is so amazing
Moist and juicy chicken, and the garlic rice is on point! I ordered the dark meat combo, but my sister had the half dark half white meat and it was good as well!
Legit. The rice is amazing. The sauce is great. And yeah, chicken is on point. No bones to spit out either!
Get the soup! It is so good and a lot of food for the money. Would definitely get it again, the egg noodles are delicious.
I've had the best chicken rice in Singapore and as I walked by this store, the fragrant ("pang") smell wafted by. I knew I had to try it. Good: moist chicken (unusually so, as in Singapore the white meat is usually tender at the cost of having slightly undercooked dark meat, and Side Chick actually had a fully cooked, very tender chicken), great ginger sauce, decent chili sauce. In addition to the Hainan chicken rice, the chicken noodle soup is pretty good and uses the roasted chicken. I'll have to try the roasted chicken rice next time as the roasted chicken had a lot of flavor! Needs improvement: dark sauce isn't your regular soy sauce, it's a much thicker soy sauce. Underwhelmed by the dark sauce. Also the rice is a lot healthier (but lacks a bit of the flavor I was hoping for). Needs that fried- in-oil with garlic taste. Please stay! It's nice to finally have good chicken rice without going all the way to monterey park!
Hainan chicken with garlic rice, sesame noodles, are my favs. The FRIED Hainan chicken is the best for those who like that crunchy chicken skin, YUM!
When main chick is too boring for me I come to side chick and I always like it in the beginning, but regrett it afterwards. 10/10 would recomment
Love the simplicity of everything. The roasted chicken and rice with a side of veggies in oyster sauce was yummy. 😊
inconsistent. the quality of the chicken has gone down dramatically. i also got food poisoning from it once. sad. i used to love this place.
Personally I prefer all dark meat.
